Job Summary
Our MedVal/PharmaWrite Division provides a comprehensive portfolio of services to the pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device industries. We specialize in publication development, publication planning, medical & regulatory writing, scientific strategy, and HCP engagement.
The Associate Medical Director (“Director”) will be responsible for the quality of scientific content developed within the accounts to which they are assigned. This involves managing and mentoring medical writers in overall professional development, account-specific scientific knowledge, and understanding of proper and professional writing of publications and other forms of scientific exchange. The Associate Medical Director will be expected to review all work that is sent to a client and address the client regarding questions and recommendations associated with the content. When needed, the Associate Medical Director will be expected to contribute to content development efficiently with little need for oversight. Additionally, the Associate Medical Director will be expected to be a leader on the team working closely with the Scientific Director to anticipate challenges in content development, and provide recommendations to proactively mitigate the challenges. This includes managing the workload for the writers and assist in prioritization when concurrent tasks are requested.
Job Responsibilities and Skills
- Direct communication with the authors and client lead regarding discussions of data, approaches to content development, and science strategy
- Critically review internal drafts and provide direct, constructive feedback aimed at creating a professional draft and fostering professional development of the writer
- Contribute to content development within the assigned accounts, particularly in strategic writing, innovative projects, and/or when large amounts of concurrent work has been assigned to the writers
- Manage writing projects to make sure projects are consistent with what is outlined in the scope of work
- Direct communication with the authors and client lead regarding discussions of data, approaches to content development, and science strategy

- Provide strategic analyses based on extensive knowledge of client data and disease state
- Assist writers in staying within timelines
- Supports Scientific Director in providing recommendations to the client
- Ensure writing is of professional quality and that the data are accurate and objectively represented
- Works with Scientific Director and/or executive lead on development of proposals and budgets
- Engages client stakeholders, key opinion leaders, authors, and outside vendors at the direction of senior director or executive lead
- Supports client executive lead on special projects, ad hoc initiatives, and business development
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience developing medical communications materials, including, but not limited to: slide decks, live and virtual advisory boards (agendas, meeting decks, summaries), speaker bureau materials and training, brochure and flashcards, and other relevant material
- Advanced degree in the Life Sciences (MS, MPH, MD, PhD, PharmD). An undergraduate degree in a related discipline with an applicable combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 1-year medical writing experience, preferably in a health care marketing or communications agency internship, preceptorship or equivalent
- Ability to assist in the development of optimal product offerings including digital and print offerings and virtual and live meetings
- Direct client and HCP interaction experience
- Possess the ability to work directly with clients, leading discussions, and identifying solutions to their business needs
- Microsoft Office proficiency (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including presentation skills
- Travel: Travel will be required to: a) clients for customer support/maintenance, b) major medical conferences both in the US and internationally as identified as important by clients or where CM is conducting a supported function/meeting/activity within the designated specialities as well as other medical education conferences and meetings as required; c) to the corporate office in New York, NY for management meetings to accomplish the goals of this position.Direct communication with the client lead (Sr. Level)

- Liaise and coordinate with creative and editorial to ensure accurate and timely delivery of publication plan assets and projects
- Works directly with executive lead on development of proposals and budgets
- Engages client stakeholders, key opinion leaders, authors, and outside vendors at the direction of senior director or executive lead
- Supports client executive lead on special projects, ad hoc initiatives, and business development
- Create and oversee budgets
- Manage project within budget/resource parameters
- Monitor resource utilization per project, reporting overage and out-of-scope activities to appropriate senior lead
- Participates in business development initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
